Borrowing Kuan-Hsing Chen’s phrase, this symposium invites graduate student presentations which interrogate the boundaries of East Asia as a geographic, disciplinary, and socio-cultural construct, toward a “deimperialized” understanding of the complexities of East Asia outside of persisting Cold War frameworks. Presenters whose work addresses such topics as queer, posthuman, transnational, feminist, proletarian, interdisciplinary, multimedia and heteroglossic formations are especially encouraged to apply.

Please submit abstracts of no more than 250 words for 15-20 minute paper or multimedia presentations tokevsmith@ucdavis.edu under the subject heading “UCD EAS Symposium” by Friday, March 11th, 2016
