A Message from the Director
Welcome to Global Hong Kong Studies @ University of California
Dear All,
I am excited to share with you a piece of good news. UC Davis East Asian Studies is starting a three-year partnership with Global Hong Kong Studies@University of California (GHKS@UC), an arrangement supported by the College of Letters and Science.
GHKS@UC was formed in 2021 by multiple UC faculty members to promote online conversations. It uses Hong Kong as a focal point to deepen debates in the social sciences, the humanities, and the arts. GHKS@UC organizes academic seminars, symposiums, book talks, film screenings, and conversations with artists. The forum has amassed a global audience of thousands of people from many places, for example, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, United Kingdom, and the United States. Please use this link to learn more about GHKS@UC (https://globalhks-uc.ucdavis.edu/)
The partnership means that the programs of GHKS@UC become part of the programs of East Asian Studies. The partnership brings new energies and ideas to East Asian Studies and broadens its international reach. I hope that the partnership will bring further and deserved attention to the excellent research of our EAS faculty and doctoral students. I hope that the new programs will enrich our students’ knowledge of Hong Kong, East Asia, and the world. I hope that more graduate and undergraduate students will join East Asian Studies and related programs at UC Davis because of this partnership.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have suggestions about programs related to Hong Kong and East Asia.
Sincerely,
Eddy U
Director of East Asian Studies
University of California, Davis
