Bio

Anthony Tran Nguyen is a PhD student in the Political Science department at UC Davis. He received his BA in Political Science with a minor in Asian Studies at San Jose State University, an MA at San Francisco State University, and an MIA (Master in International Affairs) at UC San Diego's School of Global Policy and Strategy. His research interests broadly focus on affective polarization and the use of strategic ambiguity among elected officials on issues that are likely to drive elite/mass polarization. He is currently researching on how high-ranking Japanese LDP (Liberal Democratic Party) ruling party lawmakers are using strategic ambiguity as a way to deflect on contentious social issues such as same-sex marriage.
