Sungwon Heo is a PhD student in the Cultural Studies Graduate Group at the University of California, Davis. He holds a B.A. in Religious Studies and a M.A. in Gender Studies, both from Seoul National University, South Korea. Their research sits at the intersection of critical cultural studies and American studies. His research interests encompass queer theory, affect theory, critical theory, postcolonial history of East Asia, and social movements in South Korea. Their current project engages with the tension between the US-based categories of historical differences and political identity formation surrounding queer politics in post-Cold War South Korea.
